Oliveira de Azeméis is in the district of Aveiro, which itself is part of the Greater Porto Metropolitan Area. It can be accessed via the A1, IC2 and EN224 and directly from Porto on the A32, it is also on the railway route and has regular bus services to many towns and regions. It is home to important domestic and international businesses and, in sport, it has a team in the second division of the football league and in the first divisions of the basketball and roller hockey leagues, with its team in this latter sport considered one of the top three in Portugal, alongside Benfica and Porto.
