Paranhos is a large parish that is known as the parish of knowledge because it is home to most of Porto’s universities and faculties. It retains its popular traditions and established customs. It grew quickly around the well-known Paranhos Parish Church and is an urban parish with large residential and institutional buildings. Nearby there are leisure areas. such as the Arca d’Água park and Quinta do Covelo, the Constituição swimming pools, supermarkets, services, restaurants and the Santa Maria Hospital. It is home to such renowned schools as the Colégio Luso Francês, is very well served by the main access roads (VCI and Circunvalação) and is just a few minutes from Boavista and Campo Alegre.
